Traveling at the off season times can be a highly effective way to save some serious bank on your trip! Most people take Summers to take those tropical getaways and Winter to take those snow trips. Some advice is to do the opposite.
Traveling at the time of year when there isn't a high demand give the hotels opportunities to lower their prices significantly.
Doing your research on where you want to go first and researching their off season can probably get you the best bang of your buck!

When you know all the free things to do at your destination is the guaranteed best way to save money. Nothing beats free!

A good thing to do before your trip is to head to a local dollar store or even while you are there. Get snacks that can help you with the mid day cravings.
Chips and crackers are small easy to pack snacks. Trail mixes and granola bars are some healthy alternatives as well. If you carry around these snacks you will be less likely to want to eat as much therefore spend less of your money when you actually get to your meal.
Snacks are also a great way to beat the munchies of long car rides when stopping some where is just not an option. Anything that gets you going and can fit in your bag is a go!
Advice from locals
When it comes to savings and prices and everything in between what better way to get all the good intel on the area then with a local.
The locals know when certain places and restaurants are just popular touristy spot and the authentic cuisine that your really looking for. It cant hurt to ask the Taxi or Tour Bus Driver what their favorite spots are!
Be sure to have you notes app pulled up when they start because a local is always ready to spit out some great stuff you don't want to miss!
Follow "6 Block Rule"
This rule basically means don't eat within 6 blocks from major tourist spots. Only a walk away you can find better food at way better prices.
You can check Yelp and Foursquare can help with those last minute bites to eat. Or plan ahead and have a place in mind that you want to go to that has authentic food and great prices.
